Crochet amigurumi astronaut

Free crochet astronaut pattern by Fairy Crochet @fairy__crochet.

With this tutorial, you can crochet an astronaut. To make this amigurumi, you will need Alize Cotton Gold and YarnArt Jeans cotton blend yarns (they are similar). All parts are fully crocheted. Work in a spiral unless stated otherwise. The toy is stuffed with synthetic poly filling or fiberfill; no wire frame is required.

Do not cut the yarn. Crochet an edging of sc around the entire perimeter, making 3 sc in each corner. Cut the yarn, leaving a tail for sewing.

Join the light blue yarn and work sl st around the entire perimeter of the edging. Cut the yarn and hide the tail.

Headphones (Make 2)

Work with gray yarn.

Work with light blue yarn.

Ch 30 and make a sl st in the first stitch. Try the edging on as you crochet; you may need to work fewer or more stitches.

Cut the yarn, leaving a tail for sewing.

Arms (Make 2)

Work with gray yarn. Stuff the piece as you crochet.

Fold the piece in half and crochet 5 sc through both walls of the stitch. Make sure the thumb on the arm faces forward. Ch 1, cut the yarn; you do not need to leave a tail, because the arms will be crocheted into the body.

Work with black yarn. Stuff the piece as you crochet.

Ch 5 + ch 1 for turning.

Adjust your starting point so the decreases are centered on the toe. Because the work may shift depending on your tension, you may not have exactly 6 sc at the beginning.

Finish the first leg with a sl st and ch 1. If you are crocheting the second leg, do not cut the yarn; continue crocheting.

Work a few sc so the working yarn is positioned at the side of the leg.

Ch 5 and join to the second leg at the side with a sl st. Make sure the toes of both legs face the same direction.

Join the black yarn to Rnd 6 and work a sl st edging around the entire perimeter of the leg. Insert the hook with the tip pointing down.

Join the black yarn to Rnd 18. Insert the hook with the tip pointing toward the leg. Ch 2 and work an hdc edging. Make a sl st in the second ch, cut the yarn, and hide the tail.

Body

Rnd 1: 18 sc along the leg, 5 sc along the ch, 18 sc along the leg, 5 sc along the ch (46)

Finish crocheting, make a sl st and ch 1, then cut the yarn. Leave a long tail for sewing.

Control Panel

Work with gray yarn in turning rows. Ch 7 + ch 1 for turning.

Rows 1-5: 7 sc, ch (5 rows)

Crochet an sc edging around the entire perimeter through the back loop only, making 3 sc in each corner. Do not cut the yarn; continue crocheting. Work two more rows of sc. Embroider buttons on the control panel with light blue and red yarn. Use the photo as a guide.

Backpack

Work with gray yarn. Stuff the piece as you crochet.

Ch 5 + ch 1 for turning.

Position the piece so the decreases are on opposite sides.

Backpack Straps

Work with gray yarn. Stuff the piece as you crochet.

Join the yarn to Rnd 6, ch 25, and join with a sl st to Rnd 16. Work 25 sl st back along the chain and make a sl st into the stitch where you started the chain.

Make the second backpack strap in the same way. Leave 6 sc between the straps.

Hide the yarn tails.

Embroider control buttons on the backpack.

Tube

Work with light blue yarn. Do NOT stuff the piece.

Ch 6 and make a sl st in the first ch, then continue working in the round.

Rnds 1-30: 6 sc (30 rounds)

Make a sl st and ch 1, cut the yarn, and leave a tail for sewing.

Assembly and Finishing

Sew the helmet window to the head.

Crochet amigurumi astronaut. Toy assembly and finishing

Sew on the headphones (12 rounds down from the MR) and the headphone edging.

Embroider a highlight on the window with white yarn.

Sew the body to the head.

Sew the tube to the headphone and to the side of the backpack.

Put on the backpack.
