Make a sl st, fasten off, and weave in the end.
Stuff the cap and sew it to the body. Before you finish sewing, add more stuffing to the body so it is nice and firm.

2. (sc, inc) x 3 (9)
3. 9 sc
4. dec, 7 sc (8)
5. 8 sc, lightly stuff the hand; do not stuff the rest of the arm

Sew the arms to the body.
Face
Glue on the eyes and embroider the mouth and eyebrows.
Leaves (use a 1.25 mm crochet hook and fine cotton yarn):
Use any fall colors you like. I chose orange and two shades of green.
1. Ch 10. Starting in the second ch from the hook: sl st, sc, hdc, dc, tr, dc, hdc, sc, sl st in the last ch; ch 1. Working along the other side of the foundation chain: sl st in the same ch as the previous sl st, sc, hdc, dc, tr, dc, hdc, sc, sl st, ch 1. Leave a long tail for sewing
Sew the leaves to the cap.
Acorn

Body (cappuccino; I used YarnArt Jeans No. 71)
Crochet Rounds 1-24 of the body in the same way as for the mushroom.
25. 30 sc, fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing
Cap (brown)
Here, PC means popcorn stitch. Make it as follows: 4 unfinished dc in the same stitch, joined at the top, then ch 1. This counts as 1 popcorn stitch.
1. 6 sc in MR
2. 6 inc (12)
3. (sc, inc) x 6 (18)
4. Sc, inc, (PC, sc, inc, 2 sc, inc) x 2, PC, sc, inc, sc (24)
5. (3 sc, inc) x 6 (30)
6. (9 sc, PC) x 3 (30)
7. 30 sc
8. 5 sc, PC, 9 sc, PC, 9 sc, PC, 4 sc (30)
9. 30 sc
10. (9 sc, PC) x 3 (30)
11. 30 sc
12. 5 sc, PC, 9 sc, PC, 9 sc, PC, 4 sc (30)
13. 30 sc
14. (9 sc, PC) x 3 (30)
15. 30 sc
16. 30 sc, fasten off and stuff the cap
I sewed the cap to the body through the lower loops, leaving the upper loops free so I could add an edging afterward.
Hold the cap with its edge facing you and work sl st in each remaining loop to the end of the round.
Your little acorn is taking shape! Add the facial features, then crochet the arms as for the mushroom and sew them to the body.
Crochet the leaf using this chart

1. Ch 19 + 1 turning ch. Starting in the second ch from the hook: 4 sc, 4 hdc, 5 dc, 5 tr, 8 tr in the last ch. Continue down the other side in reverse order: 5 tr, 5 dc, 4 hdc, 4 sc. Continue with the stem: ch 5, sc, then work sl st back up the stem.
2. Follow the chart to crochet the wavy edge.
Sew the leaf to the cap.
Pinecone

Crochet the body and arms as for the acorn, but use cream yarn.
Crochet the pinecone in brown (I used YarnArt Jeans No. 70).
Base
1. 6 sc in MR
2. 6 inc (12)
3. (sc, inc) x 6 (18)
4. Sc, inc, (2 sc, inc) x 5, sc (24)
5. (3 sc, inc) x 6 (30)
Work all remaining rounds in the BACK LOOPS ONLY.
6. (4 sc, inc) x 6 (36)
7. (5 sc, inc) x 6 (42)
8. 42 sc
9. (6 sc, inc) x 6 (48)
10. (7 sc, inc) x 6 (54)
11. (8 sc, inc) x 6 (60)
12. 60 sc
13. (8 sc, dec) x 6 (54)
14. 54 sc
15. (7 sc, dec) x 6 (48)
16. 48 sc
17. (6 sc, dec) x 6 (42)
18. 42 sc
19. (5 sc, dec) x 6 (36)
20. 36 sc
21. (4 sc, dec) x 6 (30)
22. 30 sc
23. 30 sc, begin stuffing
24. (3 sc, dec) x 6 (24)
25. 24 sc
26. (2 sc, dec) x 6 (18)
27. 18 sc
28. 18 sc, add more stuffing
29. (sc, dec) x 6 (12)
30. 12 sc
31. (2 sc, dec) x 3 (9)
Finish stuffing and make decreases until the opening is closed.
Fasten off and hide the yarn tail inside.
Next, crochet the pinecone scales. I add scales to every other round. If you want a very full pinecone, add them to every round.
Hold the piece with the wide end facing you. Count the first 30 free loops and leave them unworked; you will use them to sew the body to the pinecone. Join the yarn in the 31st loop and crochet as follows:
Ch 1, skip 2 loops, and work the following into the third loop: (3 dc, 2 tr, 3 dc, ch 1). Skip 2 loops, then work 1 sc into the third loop. You have made one scale. Continue making scales in the same repeat to the end of the round, starting with ch 1 and ending with 1 sc.
After completing one round, skip the next round and crochet another round of scales in the same way. There is one important detail: to stagger the scales, you will need to add extra sl sts. For example, in the next round I added 2 sl sts between scales, and in the following scale round I added 3 sl sts. Once the pinecone begins to taper, especially near the tip, the extra sl sts are no longer needed. Just make sure the scales remain staggered.
Sew the pinecone to the body, add the facial features, then crochet and attach the arms. Your pinecone is finished!
