Pumpkin

Free crochet pattern for a Pumpkin by Natalia Balyk @nata_balyk.
With this pattern, you can crochet a little pumpkin character. You can use any acrylic or cotton yarn for this amigurumi project. The designer recommends yarn with a yardage of 200 m per 50 g. Decorative buttons or beads can be used as embellishments.
The finished pumpkin toy is about 14 cm (5.5 in) tall, not including the hat, when made with the materials listed below. The skill level is intermediate. Beginners may find the post-stitch leg warmers and hat challenging. You can substitute a simpler stitch pattern instead.

Crochet pattern for an amigurumi pumpkin wearing leg warmers and a hat
Head
Work in orange in a continuous spiral without a turning chain.
Rnd 1: 8 sc in MR
Rnd 2: inc x 8 = 16
Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) x 8 = 24
Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) x 8 = 32
Rnd 5: (3 sc, inc) x 8 = 40
Rnd 6: (4 sc, inc) x 8 = 48
Rnd 7: (5 sc, inc) x 8 = 56
Rnd 8: (6 sc, inc) x 8 = 64
Rnds 9-19: 64 sc (11 rounds even)
You can add more rounds for extra height.
Rnd 20: (6 sc, dec) x 8 = 56
Rnd 21: 56 sc
Rnd 22: (5 sc, dec) x 8 = 48
Rnd 23: 48 sc
Rnd 24: (4 sc, dec) x 8 = 40
Rnd 25: (3 sc, dec) x 8 = 32
Rnd 26: (2 sc, dec) x 8 = 24
Stuff the piece firmly.
Rnd 27: (1 sc, dec) x 8 = 16
Rnd 28: dec x 8 = 8
Cut the yarn and cinch the opening closed. Thread a long needle with orange yarn. Divide the pumpkin in half by passing the needle through the MR at the top and the opening at the bottom each time.
Next, divide both halves into quarters, pulling the yarn tight each time. This creates clearly defined pumpkin segments.
Divide each quarter in half once more. You should have 8 segments in total.
Legs
Begin in green. Ch 4 + 2 tch.
Rnd 1: 3 sc, 4 sc in the last ch, working along the other side of the chain: 2 sc, inc = 11
Continue working in a spiral without a turning chain. Work the first sc of Rnd 2 into the first sc of Rnd 1.
Rnd 2: inc, 2 sc, inc x 4, 2 sc, inc x 2 = 18
Rnd 3: 1 sc, inc, 2 sc, (1 sc, inc) x 4, 3 sc, inc, 2 sc = 24
Trace around the sole. Make a paper template, then use it to cut 2 insoles from plastic.
Rnd 4: BLO: 24 sc
Rnd 5: 24 sc
Rnd 6: 5 sc, (2 sc, dec) x 3, 7 sc = 21
Rnd 7: 5 sc, (1 sc, dec) x 3, 7 sc = 18
Insert the insole.
Rnd 8: 5 sc, dec x 3, 7 sc = 15
Stuff the shoe.
If your stitches are tight enough, you do not need to stuff the rest of the leg.
Switch to brown.
Rnd 9: BLO: (1 sc, dec) x 5 = 10
Rnds 10-19: 10 sc (10 rounds)
Rnd 20: dec x 5 = 5
Rnd 21: inc x 5 = 10
Rnds 22-32: 10 sc (12 rounds)
Rnd 33: Working through both sides: 4 sc
Leave a yarn tail for sewing the leg in place.
Leg warmers (make 2)
Work in orange. Ch 17 and join into a ring with 1 sl st. At the beginning of each round, ch 2 instead of working the first dc. End each round with 1 sl st in the second turning chain.

Rnd 1: 16 dc
Rnds 2-5: 1x1 ribbing. Alternate 1 FPdc and 1 BPdc.
Finish with 1 sl st. Cut and fasten off the yarn. Slide the finished leg warmers onto the legs from the top down.
Arms (make 2)
Begin in brown.
Rnd 1: 5 sc in MR
Rnd 2: inc x 5 = 10
Rnd 3: 10 sc
Rnd 4: dec x 5 = 5
Switch to orange.
Rnds 5-20: 5 sc
Leave a yarn tail for sewing.
Wig
Work in brown in a continuous spiral without a turning chain.
Rnd 1: 8 sc in MR
Rnd 2: inc x 8 = 16
Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) x 8 = 24
Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) x 8 = 32
Rnd 5: (3 sc, inc) x 8 = 40
Rnd 6: (4 sc, inc) x 8 = 48
Rnd 7: (5 sc, inc) x 8 = 56
Rnd 8: (6 sc, inc) x 8 = 64
Next, crochet curls of different lengths.
There are 32 strands in total.
Rnd 9: (ch 5, work 3 dc along the chain, attach to the base with 1 sl st, work 1 more sl st) x 13. Note: One curl uses 2 sc of the wig base (round).
(ch 12, work 10 dc along the chain, 2 sl st along the base) x 1;
(ch 11, work 9 dc along the chain, 2 sl st along the base) x 5;
(ch 9, work 7 dc along the chain, 2 sl st along the base) x 1;
(ch 7, work 5 dc along the chain, 2 sl st along the base) x 1;
(ch 5, work 3 dc along the chain, 2 sl st along the base) x 4;
(ch 7, work 5 dc along the chain, 2 sl st along the base) x 1;
(ch 9, work 7 dc along the chain, 2 sl st along the base) x 1;
(ch 11, work 9 dc along the chain, 2 sl st along the base) x 5.
Leave a long yarn tail for sewing.
Hat
Work the hat in 1x1 ribbing using post stitches.
Ch 37. At the very beginning, leave a long yarn tail for sewing the hat to the head.
Join into a ring with 1 sl st. At the beginning of each round, ch 2 instead of working the first dc. End each round with 1 sl st in the second turning chain.
Rnd 1: 36 dc
Rnds 2-6: (1 FPdc, 1 BPdc) x 18
Rnd 7: dec x 18 = 18 dc
In the hat instructions, DEC means to crochet two dc together. Instead of the first dc, ch 2. There is now one loop on the hook. Yarn over, insert the hook from the back around the post of the dc, pull up a loop, then work this loop and the yarn over together. This completes the first decrease at the beginning of the round.
DECREASE OVER 2 DC:
There is one loop on the hook. Yarn over, insert the hook from the front around the post of the dc, and pull up a loop. Work this loop and the yarn over together. There are 2 loops on the hook. Yarn over, insert the hook from the back around the post of the dc, pull up a loop, and work this loop and the yarn over together. There are 3 loops on the hook. Work all 3 loops together.
Rnd 8: 18 FPdc
Rnd 9: dec x 9 = 9 dc
In Rnd 9, work the decreases using FPdc. In other words, insert the hook around the post of each dc from the front only.
Rnds 10-11: 9 FPdc
Cut the yarn. Gather and cinch the stitches at the top. The hat is finished.
Assembling the toy
Pin the wig to the head. Place the first pin through the MR of the wig and the MR of the head. Continue pinning around the edge. Sewing the wig to the head is quite challenging. You will need a long length of yarn and some patience.

Sew the wig around the head at about Rnds 5-6, working into every other stitch. Make one stitch the height of 1 sc, then bring the needle through the head to the third stitch, and continue in the same way. Next, sew the center at the MR. Bring the needle out at the final round of the wig and sew around the perimeter. I left the curls loose so they look playful and stick out in different directions. You can carefully roll each of the longer curls near the face into a tube shape.
Glue on the eyes. Embroider eyelashes and a mouth if desired. Sew on the legs and arms. Sew the hat to Rnds 5-6 of the wig. Decorate with beads or a button. Your Pumpkin is finished!
