Crochet amigurumi Lori the Seal

A free crochet pattern for Lori the Seal by Diana Patskun @dianapatskun.

With this pattern, you can crochet a seal wearing a hat. Any cotton blend yarn will work well for this amigurumi, including Alize Cotton Gold, YarnArt Jeans, Gazzal Baby Cotton, and similar yarns.

The finished toy is about 25 cm (10 in) tall.

Pull the ring closed. Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Start at the tail with gray yarn.

Assembly

Pin the head and body together all the way around, then sew them together with an invisible seam. Insert the needle under the base of a stitch in the final round of the head, then under the base of a stitch in the final round of the body, and gently tighten the yarn. This method works because the final rounds of the head and body have the same number of stitches.

When only a small opening remains, firmly stuff the space between the neck and head with fiberfill so the head does not droop. Finish sewing the opening closed and hide the yarn end inside the piece.

Sew the flippers to the sides of the body. First, pin them between Rounds 55 and 56. Make sure the flippers are positioned symmetrically, then sew them on as securely as possible. Hide the yarn end inside the body.

Pin the muzzle to the center of the lower part of the head, then sew it on, adding stuffing as you go. I sew it on with stitches that pass first under a stitch of the muzzle and then under a stitch of the head.

Sew the nose to the center of the upper part of the muzzle. Using two strands of embroidery floss, embroider the whiskers and dots.

Next, mark the eye placement. Mine are positioned between Rounds 13 and 14, about 9-10 stitches apart.

Thread a needle with sewing thread held double and secure it. Sew on the eyes, secure the thread again, and cut it.

Pin the cheeks in place, then sew them on.

Hat

I made the hat with Drops Nord yarn and a 2 mm crochet hook. Chain 66, join into a ring with a sl st, and ch 3 for the turning chain.
