Mary the Frog

Free crochet pattern for Mary the Frog by Tatyana Galuzina @tatiana__gal.

With this tutorial, you can crochet a frog. Any acrylic yarn, cotton yarn, or cotton blend yarn and a suitable crochet hook will work for this amigurumi project. You can decorate the frog however you like, for example by crocheting a skirt or sewing one from fabric.

The finished toy is about 20 cm tall.

Materials and Tools

• Yarn in any color (for the frog), white yarn (for the whites of the eyes), and black yarn (for the pupils)
• Crochet hook
• Toy stuffing
• Fabric (for the skirt)
• Pins
• Needle for sewing pieces together
• Scissors

Legs (make 2)

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR (6)
Rnd 2: 6 inc (12)
Rnds 3-30: (12)

Stuff with fiberfill as you crochet. Fasten off. Leave a short tail.

Second leg: crochet the same way as the first, but do not cut the yarn.

Body

Rnd 31: 6 sc along the second leg, 7 ch, 12 sc along the first leg, 7 sc across the 7 ch, 6 sc along the second leg, place a marker (this will be the frog's side and the beginning of the next rounds) (38)

Stuff the body with fiberfill.

Cut the yarn. Finish stuffing the top of the frog's head. Pull the opening closed through the front loops. Fasten off and weave in the tail.

Arms (make 2)

Stuff the arms with fiberfill a little more than halfway.

Pull closed through the front loops. Leave a long tail for sewing.

Lips

Crochet 70 sc. Pull the opening closed through the front loops. Leave a long tail for sewing.

Upper Eyelid (make 2)

Do not stuff. Fold the piece in half and crochet through both sides with 12 sl st. Leave a long tail for sewing.

Inner Eye (make 2)

Crochet with white yarn.

Stuff with fiberfill. Pull closed through the front loops. Fasten off. Cut the tail short. Embroider a long pupil with black yarn. Fasten off the yarn and cut it short.

Assembly

Well, congratulations: all the pieces are successfully crocheted. Pin the upper eyelids in place, insert the white inner eyes, turn the toy around, look at it, admire it, and ask your kids whether they like it - or, as a last resort, ask the neighbors. Maybe you will want to sew the eyes a little higher, or maybe a little lower. Have you decided?

Then go ahead and sew on the upper eyelids. Next, insert the inner eyes and secure them straight through, but do not pull too tight.

Pin the lips in place and sew them on neatly.

Sew the arms onto clear flat buttons or buttons that match your frog.
