Sheep

A free Little Sheep crochet tutorial by Margo Saudade @margo_saudade.

Using this pattern, you can crochet a little sheep with movable limbs. The toy is assembled with cotter-pin or button joints (this pattern demonstrates the cotter-pin option). You can also simply sew the pieces on if you prefer. The sheep's fluffy parts are crocheted with Alize Softy, while the rest is made with YarnArt Angora Ram.

Materials and tools

• Alize Softy yarn, color 55
• YarnArt Angora Ram yarn, colors 502 and 511
• Black embroidery floss or regular black sewing thread
• 1.75 mm crochet hook
• 3 mm safety eyes
• Fiberfill
• Stitch markers
• Pins
• 2 discs and 1 T-shaped cotter pin (or 2 two-hole buttons and 1 O-shaped cotter pin)
• Needle for sewing pieces together
• Scissors

Amigurumi baby sheep crochet pattern

Head

Crochet with beige Angora Ram yarn.

1. Ch 4, inc in the 2nd ch from the hook, sc, 3 sc in the last ch; working along the other side of the chain: sc, sc in the stitch containing the first increase (8)

Insert the cotter pin with a disc into the head between rounds 8 and 9, 1-2 stitches away from the marker. Firmly stuff the head.

Use the remaining yarn tail to pull the opening closed, then weave the tail into the head.

Body

Crochet with Softy yarn, working the body from the top down.

Attach the head to the body with a disc.
Continue crocheting.

Stuff each leg and pull the opening closed.

Ears (make 2)

Fold each ear in half and make a couple of stitches across the top to secure it in the same position as the ears on our sheep.

Assembly

Attach the limbs with nylon thread. Insert the needle as shown in the photo, leaving a long thread tail. Pass it through one limb, then bring it back through the body to the initial insertion point. Thread on the second limb, pull the two thread ends tight, and tie them securely. Hide the thread ends inside the body.

Thread the bead eyes onto black thread (I use regular sewing thread held triple). Thread both ends through a needle and pull them through the head, bringing the threads from both eyes out at the same point. Pull tight, tie securely, and hide the thread ends inside the head. Sew on the ears, embroider the nose, and lightly shade it with pastel or acrylic paint.
