Crochet Pumpkin Pattern
Big Pumpkin
Use orange yarn.
1 round: 6 sc in MR (6)
2 round: inc in every sc (12)
3 round: (1 sc, inc) x 6 times (18)
4 round: (2 sc, inc) x 6 times (24)
5 round: (3 sc, inc) x 6 times (30)
6 round: (4 sc, inc) x 6 times (36)
7 round: (5 sc, inc) x 6 times (42)
8 round: (6 sc, inc) x 6 times (48)
9-17 rounds: 48 sc
18 round: (6 sc, dec) x 6 times (42)
19 round: (5 sc, dec) x 6 times (36)
20 round: (4 sc, dec) x 6 times (30)
21 round: (3 sc, dec) x 6 times (24)
22 round: (2 sc, dec) x 6 times (18), stuff with filling
23 round: (1 sc, dec) x 6 times (12)
24 round: 6 decreases (6), close so there is no hole and leave a long yarn tail.
Now you have an orange, slightly flattened ball. To make it look like a pumpkin, you need to shape segments. Thread the remaining yarn through a blunt tapestry needle and stitch the pumpkin straight through from top (where the yarn tail is) to bottom, bringing the needle out at the bottom center (where the magic ring is).
Pull the yarn a little to flatten the pumpkin. Then lay the yarn along the outside of the ball and insert the needle again from top to bottom as before, then pull tight. The tighter you pull, the deeper the groove will be and the clearer the segments will look.
Repeat this 5 more times, or more if you want many segments (my pumpkins have 6 segments), and the pumpkin is ready. Now make the stem.
Stem for Big Pumpkin
Use dark green yarn.
1 round: 6 sc in MR (6)
2 round: inc in every sc (12)
3 round: (1 sc, inc) x 6 times (18)
4-6 rounds: 18 sc
7 round: (1 sc, dec) x 6 times (12), lightly stuff with filling
8-9 rounds: 12 sc
10 round: (2 sc, dec) x 3 times (9)
11-13 rounds: 9 sc
10 round: (1 sc, dec) x 3 times (6),
15-16 rounds: 6 sc
17 round: (1 sc, dec) x 2 times (4)
18 round: 4 sc
Crochet 1-2 more slip stitches through the remaining loops, close, and leave a tail for sewing.
First, bring the remaining tail down to the base of the stem, but not right away. On the way, make a few small stitches across the stem surface. Then at the base, pull the tail a little to create natural folds on the stem (like a real pumpkin).
Then sew the stem to the pumpkin with an invisible stitch, positioning it so that the round stem base fits into the top indentation of the pumpkin. To finish, make a few extra stitches over the top round part of the stem so it forms a folded rosette. This is optional, it just makes it look more like a real pumpkin stem.
Face Embroidery
Now for the main part - embroidering a spooky face! ;)
Everything is simple here: take black thread and embroider the outlines of eyes and mouth in any shape you like. If needed, sketch it on paper first to place it correctly. Then take bright yellow thread and fill in the area inside the eyes and mouth with stitches. To create a varied glow effect (as if something is burning inside the pumpkin), make stitches of different lengths and in different directions.
Now it is truly done! You should get a real Halloween pumpkin with glowing eyes and a sly grin! ;)
