Baby Cow

Free crochet pattern for Baby Cow by Tatyana Razuvaeva @tata_memories.

With this tutorial you can crochet a little cow in a dress. Any cotton blend yarn works well for this amigurumi: YarnArt Jeans, Alize Cotton Gold, or Gazzal Baby Cotton. You can also use the cow as a keychain if you like.

The finished toy is about 9 cm tall.

Materials and Tools

• YarnArt Jeans: 03-milk (for the body), 36-pink (for the legs and arms), 71-brown (for the horns and tail)
• YarnArt Jeans in two or three shades you like (for the dress and decoration)
• Iris yarn or embroidery floss in white, black, and brown (for embroidering the face)
• 2 mm crochet hook
• 7-8 mm safety eyes
• Toy stuffing
• Keychain hardware
• Needle for sewing pieces together
• Scissors

Crochet Amigurumi Baby Cow Pattern

First, crochet all the small pieces for decorating the head.

Muzzle

Chain 6, start crocheting in the second chain from the hook.

Rnd 1: inc, 3 sc, 3 sc in one stitch, 4 sc (12)
Rnd 2: 2 inc, 3 sc, 3 inc, 3 sc, inc (18)
Rnd 3: 18 sc (18)

Fasten off and cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Ears (Make 2)

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR (6)
Rnd 2: inc x 6 times (12)
Rnd 3-4: 12 sc (12)
Rnd 5: (2 sc, dec) x 3 (19)

Fold the ear in half and crochet 3 sc through both layers. Fasten off and cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Horns (Make 2)

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR (6)

Fasten off and cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Set all the small pieces aside for now and move on to the main piece.

Head and Body

Start crocheting with the milk-colored (main color) yarn.

Insert the safety eyes between rounds 9 and 10, 8 sc apart from each other (use the marker in the middle of the muzzle as a guide). Start stuffing the head.

Stuff the head firmly. I shape the face at this stage: slightly pull the eyes together, then embroider the eyelashes, eyebrows, and eye whites.

I also assemble the head right away. Sew the muzzle to the center of the head between rounds 9 and 15. Add a little stuffing as you sew it on, but do not overstuff. Embroider the nostrils with brown yarn using regular stitches.

Sew the horns to the sides of the head between rounds 3 and 5. Fold the ears in half and sew them together at the base. Sew them on right after the horns.

Continue crocheting the body.
Change to the dress-colored yarn.
Rnd 20: (1 sc, inc) x 6 times (18)

Change to the main color. Do not cut the dress-colored yarn; leave it on the front side of the work.

Rnd 30-31: 24 sc (24)

Start stuffing the body. Next, crochet the legs. Move the beginning of the round so it is exactly in the center of the toy's back. To do this, crochet a few shifting stitches (I made 4 sc). Now divide all body stitches into two equal parts of 12 sc each. Crochet each part separately as follows.

Rnd 32-34 (3 rnds): 12 sc (12)
Change to pink yarn.
Rnd 35: (2 sc, dec) x 3 times (9)
Rnd 36: (1 sc, dec) x 3 times (6)

Stuff the body and leg completely. Pull the stitches closed and hide the yarn tail. Crochet the second leg the same way by joining the yarn to the remaining 12 body stitches. Leave a long second yarn tail in case you have a gap between the legs and need to sew it closed.

Now return to the front loops of round 28. Join the dress-colored yarn that you left on the outside of the body to the first stitch, chain 3, and work 2 more tr into the same stitch. Then crochet 3 tr into each stitch of the round. At the end, work a sl st into the first stitch. With a contrasting color, crochet sc around the skirt edge.

Arms (Make 2)

Start crocheting with gray yarn.

Rnd 1: 5 sc in MR (5)
Rnd 2: inc x 5 times (10)
Rnd 3-4: 10 sc (10)
Change to the dress-colored yarn.
Rnd 5-6: 10 sc (10)
Lightly stuff the arm.
Rnd 7: (1 sc, dec) x 3 times, 1 sc (7)
Rnd 8-10 (3 rnds): 7 sc (7)

Fold the piece in half and crochet 3 sc through both layers. Cut the yarn, leaving a tail for sewing. Sew the arms between rounds 20 and 21.

Tail

With the main color yarn, chain 10. Cut the yarn, leaving a tail for sewing. Attach pre-cut pieces of brown yarn, about 5 cm long, to the other end. Trim the tail and fluff it. Sew it to the back of the body at round 30.

Flower

Work 5 sc into MR and close with a sl st into the first stitch of the round, then work (2 ch for turning, 2 dc, 2 ch, sl st, sl st into the next stitch). Repeat 4 more times.

Fasten off and cut the yarn, leaving a tail for sewing. Decorate as desired.

Sew the flower to one of the paws. Tint the toy's cheeks and ears. Sew the keychain holder to the first round. Your Baby Cow is ready!
