Stuff the head as you crochet, hiding the rattle insert inside.

19. (5 sc, dec) x 6 (36)
20. (4 sc, dec) x 6 (30)
21. (3 sc, dec) x 6 (24)
22. (2 sc, dec) x 6 (18)
23. (1 sc, dec) x 6 (12)
24. 6 dec. Pull the opening closed. Hide the yarn tail.

Face Details

Make two eye indentations with a long strand of yarn, as shown in the photo.

Sew the ears between the rounds, centered and parallel to the eyes, then sew them to the head again one round higher so the ears stand upright.

Embroider the nose with half a strand of colored YarnArt Jeans yarn, and use half a strand matching the main color to make an indentation under the nose. Embroider the eyelashes and eyebrows with black yarn.

Ears

1. 6 sc in MR
2. 6 sc
3. (1 sc, inc) x 3 (9)
4. 9 sc
5. (2 sc, inc) x 3 (12)
6. 12 sc
7. (3 sc, inc) x 3 (15)
8. 15 sc
9. (3 sc, dec) x 3 (12)

Fold in half and crochet 6 sc through both layers. Fold once more and crochet 3 sc.

Muzzle

1. 6 ch, from the 2nd ch from hook: 4 sc, 3 sc in one stitch, 3 sc, inc (12)
2. inc, 3 sc, 3 inc, 3 sc, 2 inc (18)
3. 1 sc, inc, 3 sc, (1 sc, inc) x 3, 3 sc, (1 sc, inc) x 2 (24)
4. 24 sc + sl st. Leave a yarn tail for sewing.

Ring Cover

35 ch, crochet from the 2nd ch from hook.

  • Work back-and-forth rows until you have the required number of rows, then use a needle to sew the strip onto the ring. I made 9 rows.
  • The number of rows depends on the width of the ring. Remember to try it on the ring as you crochet. It should not be loose! Otherwise, the head will wobble.
  • To keep the fabric even, you do NOT need to make a turning chain at the end of each row!
  • Sew the rattle to the ring after you have finished all the face details.

Collar

  1. 32 sc in the front loops only
  2. (ch, 2 dc in one stitch, ch, 2 dc in one stitch) x n to the end of the row
  3. 5 dc between dc stitches, sl st in the ch space. Repeat to the end of the row. Fasten off and cut the yarn.

Assembly

  1. Sew the ears between rounds 6 and 13. Stuff lightly.
  2. Sew the muzzle between rounds 19 and 20. Leave a long yarn tail for sewing.
  3. Embroider the stripes however you like. I made mine on the sides, using the yarn folded in half.
  4. Make the mane from YarnArt Jeans yarn as well. Cut strands 10-12 cm long and thread them through the stitches at the top of the head. You can choose the number and length of the strands as you like.
