"Openings" for the Ears
The part of the hat that rests on the teddy bear's neck stays as it is. Start crocheting from the shoulder area (the stitch count is approximate, so try it on and work the number of stitches you need).
1. 10 sc (work as many sc as needed up to the ear)
2. 6 ch (work enough chains to go around the ear)
3. 10 dc (up to the start of the second ear)
4. 6 ch
5. 10 sc
Turn the work and crochet back toward the teddy bear's neck (to the point where the sc section begins).
6-8. Work 3 rows in ribbing by alternating front post and back post double crochets.
Try the hat on the back of the head; if the fabric is not long enough from the neck to the ears, work one more row without changes.
For post double crochets, use 2 turning chains. So at the end of row 1, work 2 ch, turn the piece, and begin row 2.
Insert the hook from the front, from right to left, under the double crochet of the previous row and work a front post double crochet. Then insert the hook from the back, from right to left, around the post of the double crochet from the previous row and work a back post double crochet.
Make braided ties for the hat. Create a small pom-pom and sew it to the top.
