Amigurumi Crocodile Softie crochet pattern

With this pattern, you can crochet a plush crocodile wearing a hat and a cowl. Any plush yarn works for this amigurumi: Himalaya Dolphin Baby, YarnArt Dolce, and others.

The finished toy is about 28 cm (11 inches) tall.

Materials and tools

  • Green plush yarn (1 skein)
  • Alize Happy Baby yarn for the hat and cowl
  • 4–4.5 mm crochet hook
  • Thread for embroidering the eyebrows and eyelashes
  • 10 mm safety eyes
  • Toy stuffing
  • A piece of fabric for the belly
  • Needles
  • Scissors

Snout

Chain 5 and work around both sides of the chain.

Make one leg, fasten off, and cut the yarn. Make the second leg, but do not cut the yarn. Continue crocheting: ch 3, join to the first leg, and work in the round (12 sc around one leg, 3 sc along the chain, 12 sc around the other leg, 3 sc along the chain). Place a marker here for the start of the round.

Hat

Make the hat in any style you like. I made mine with short rows of half double crochet, following a pattern by Polina Kuts.

Cowl

Hold two strands of Alize Happy Baby yarn together. Using 4 mm knitting needles, cast on 7 stitches and alternate knit and purl stitches until the cowl reaches the desired length.

Assembly

  • Sew the head to the body.
  • Sew the arms to the body, two rounds below the head.
  • Sew the snout to the head between rounds 11 and 17.
  • Place the eyes between rounds 10 and 11, seven sc apart.
  • Sew the tail to the back of the body between rounds 4 and 11.
  • If you like, decorate the belly with fabric and make a scarf.

Tip: I sewed the pieces together with a different, regular yarn because Dolce sheds and comes apart. As you can see in the photos, the other yarn does not show at all.
