Crochet amigurumi crab

Free crochet Crab pattern by Irina Baeva @vyju_ot_dushi.

With this pattern, you can crochet a crab. Any cotton blend yarn will work for this amigurumi project, including YarnArt Jeans, Alize Cotton Gold, Gazzal Baby Cotton, and similar yarns.

Materials and tools

  • YarnArt Jeans yarn: 26 red and 01 white
  • 2 mm crochet hook
  • Black thread for embroidering the mouth
  • Safety eyes
  • Fiberfill
  • Glue
  • Needle for sewing the pieces together
  • Scissors

  • MR — magic ring
  • sc — single crochet
  • inc — increase
  • dec — decrease
  • (...) x n — repeat n times

Crochet amigurumi crab pattern

Claws (make 2)

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR
Rnd 2: 6 sc (6)
Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) x 3 (9)

Fasten off and cut the yarn. Make another identical piece, but do not cut the yarn. Continue crocheting:

Rnd 4: 9 sc around the first piece, 9 sc around the second piece (18)
Rnd 5-6: 18 sc (18)
Rnd 7: (1 sc, dec) x 6 (12)
Rnd 8: 12 sc
Rnd 9: (1 sc, dec) x 4 (8)
Rnd 10-12: 8 sc (8)

Work 1-2 additional sc. Fold the piece in half and work 4 sc through both layers. Cut the yarn and fasten off. Stuff as you go, but do not stuff all the way to the top.

Legs (make 6)

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR
Rnd 2-6: 6 sc (6)

Do not stuff. Fold the piece in half and work 3 sc through both layers. Fasten off and cut the yarn. Make 6 legs.

Eyes (make 2)

With white yarn:

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR
Rnd 2: inc x 6 (12)
Rnd 3-5: 12 sc (12)
Rnd 6: (1 sc, dec) x 4 (8)
Switch to red yarn.
Rnd 7-9: 8 sc (8)

Leave a long tail for sewing, then cut the yarn and fasten off.

Shell (bottom)

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR
Rnd 2: inc x 6 (12)
Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 (18)
Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) x 6 (24)
Rnd 5: (3 sc, inc) x 6 (30)
Rnd 6: (4 sc, inc) x 6 (36)
Rnd 7: (5 sc, inc) x 6 (42)
Rnd 8: (6 sc, inc) x 6 (48)
Rnd 9: (7 sc, inc) x 6 (54)

Crochet the limbs into the next round:

Rnd 10: 5 sc, (3 sc through the leg stitches) x 3, 3 sc, 4 sc through the claw stitches, 3 sc, 4 sc through the claw stitches, 3 sc, (3 sc through the leg stitches) x 3, sc to the end of the round.

Pull all yarn tails from the limbs to the wrong side. Cut the yarn and fasten off.

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR
Rnd 2: inc x 6 (12)
Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 (18)

Assembly

  • Place the bottom shell against the top and join them by working sc evenly around the edge. Remember to stuff the crab before closing the opening
  • Sew the eyes to the shell
  • Glue on the half beads
  • Embroider the mouth
