Tiger Cub

Free Tiger Cub crochet tutorial by Yuliya Rossamakhina @uliyaross.

With this pattern, you can crochet a plush tiger. Any plush yarn works well for this amigurumi: YarnArt Dolce or Himalaya Dolphin Baby. The toy is crocheted, and the scarf is knitted. If you like, you can crochet the scarf instead.

The finished toy is about 17 cm tall.

Materials and Tools

• Himalaya Dolphin Baby plush yarn: orange (half a skein), milk, white, and black
• YarnArt Jeans yarn (for the nose and scarf)
• 3.5 mm crochet hook (for the tiger)
• 3.5 mm knitting needles (for the scarf)
• Safety eyes, 10-12 mm
• Fiberfill
• Stitch markers
• Sewing pins
• Needle
• Scissors

Head

Stuff as you go.

Rnd 1. 5 sc in MR (5)
Rnd 2. 5 inc (10)
Rnd 3. 10 inc (20)
Rnd 4. (3 sc, inc) x 5 (25)
Rnd 5. (4 sc, inc) x 5 (30)
Rnd 6. (5 sc, inc) x 5 (35)
Rnds 7-11. 35 sc for 5 rounds

Insert the eyes between Rnds 8 and 9, 5-6 sc apart.

Cut the yarn and fasten off.

Body

Stuff as you go.

Start with a chain of 7 ch. Begin crocheting in the 2nd chain from the hook:

Leave a yarn tail for sewing on the head.

Arms (make 2)

Stuff the base of the arm. Start crocheting with white yarn.

Start with a chain of 4 ch. Begin crocheting in the 2nd chain from the hook:

Rnd 1. 2 sc, 3 sc in one stitch, 1 sc, inc (8)
Rnds 2-3. 8 sc for 2 rounds; at the end of the round, change to the main yarn color (8)
Rnd 4. (2 sc, dec) x 2 (6)
Rnds 5-6. 6 sc for 2 rounds

Work 1 additional sc.

Fold the piece in half and crochet through both layers together (when crocheting through both layers, crochet two stitches together). Leave a yarn tail for sewing.

Legs (make 2)

Stuff the base of the leg. Start crocheting with white yarn:

Rnd 2. 5 inc (10)
Rnd 3. (1 sc, inc) x 5 (15)
Rnds 4-5. 15 sc for 2 rounds (15)

Work 1 additional sc. Fold the piece in half and crochet through both layers together (crochet two stitches together to reduce the number of stitches). Leave a yarn tail for sewing.

Ears (make 2)

Start crocheting with black yarn:

Rnd 1. 6 sc in MR (6), change to the main yarn color

Fold the piece in half and crochet through both layers together. Leave a yarn tail for sewing.

Muzzle

With white yarn:

Leave a yarn tail for sewing.

Tail

Start crocheting with orange yarn:

Rnd 1. 7 sc in MR (7)

Work 15 rounds of 7 sc total, crocheting Rnds 5 and 8 in black.

Fold the piece in half and crochet through both layers together (crochet 2 stitches together to reduce the number of stitches).

Toy Assembly

• Sew the head to the body. Note that the body has an oval shape, so make sure everything is even and symmetrical.
• Sew the ears and muzzle to the head. Embroider the nose on the muzzle (split the YarnArt Jeans strand into 2 separate strands).
• If you are using sew-on eyes, sew them between Rnds 8 and 9, 5-6 sc apart.
• Sew the arms to the body along the seam where the head is attached to the body, 4 stitches apart.
• Sew the legs between Rnds 4 and 5, 10 stitches apart.
• Sew on the tail.
• Embroider the stripes as you like.
