Teddy Bear with a Heart

Free Teddy Bear with a Heart crochet tutorial by @danaika_toys.

With this pattern, you can crochet a Valentine teddy bear with a heart. For this amigurumi, any cotton blend yarn will work: Gazzal Baby Cotton, YarnArt Jeans, Vita Coco, and others.

The finished toy is about 11 cm tall.

Materials and tools

• Gazzal Baby Cotton yarn: 3434 cappuccino, 3446 beige, 3443 red
• 1.6 mm crochet hook
• Thread for embroidering the face
• 12 mm safety eyes
• Safety nose
• Toy stuffing
• Glue
• Needle for sewing parts
• Scissors

Crochet amigurumi teddy bear with a heart pattern

The head, body, and lower legs are crocheted as one piece.

Head

Crochet with the main color (cappuccino). Chain 15, then starting in the second chain from the hook:

1: inc, 12 sc along the chain, 3 sc in one stitch (into the first chain stitch), 13 sc along the other side of the chain (30)
2: 2 inc, 12 sc, 3 inc, 12 sc, inc (36)
3: (1 sc, inc) x 2, 12 sc, (1 sc, inc) x 3, 13 sc, inc (42)
4-7: 4 rounds (42)
8: (3 sc, inc, 3 sc) x 6 (48)
9-11: 3 rounds (48)
12: (7 sc, inc) x 6 (54)
13-32: 20 rounds (54)

Lower legs (2 pieces)

Without cutting the yarn, continue with the lower legs; the first one is the left leg:

1: 17 sc, then count back 5 sc from the marker and crochet in those 5 sc in the round; this is now the start of the round
2-5: 4 rounds (22)
6: 5 sc, dec, 9 sc, dec, 4 sc (20)
7-8: 2 rounds (20)
9: (2 sc, dec) x 5 (15)
10: 7 dec, 1 sc (8)

Pull the opening closed and hide the yarn tail. Now crochet the right leg. First count 5 sc along the body from the left leg (hold the teddy body upside down facing you, with the marker on the back). Crochet into the 6th stitch on the body:

1: 22 sc (you should still have 5 sc left before the left leg)
2-5: 4 rounds (22) (the first sc starts where you inserted the hook into the 6th stitch, then continue in the round)
6: 5 sc, dec, 9 sc, dec, 4 sc (20)
7-8: 2 rounds (20)
9: (2 sc, dec) x 5 (15)
10: 7 dec, 1 sc (8)

Pull the opening closed and hide the yarn tail. Stuff the body and legs through the opening, then sew it closed.

Arms (2 pieces)

Use the main color yarn:

1: 6 sc in MR
2: 6 inc (12)
3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 (18)
4-15: 12 rounds (18)

Stuff the arm, fold it in half, and crochet 9 sc through both sides. Cut the yarn and leave a short tail for sewing. Sew to the body between rounds 15-22.

Ears (2 pieces)

1: 6 sc in MR
2: 6 inc (12)
3: 12 sc (12)

Cut the yarn and leave a short tail for sewing. Sew the ears evenly at the corners.

Belly patch

Use beige yarn. You will crochet with right-side and wrong-side sc; I have a detailed video on my page showing how to do this.

Chain 18, then starting in the second chain from the hook:

1: RS 16 sc, 3 sc in 1 stitch, 16 sc (35)
2: WS turn ch, 16 sc, 3 inc, 16 sc (38)
3: RS turn ch, 2 sc, 5 hdc, 9 dc, (1 dc inc, dc) x 3, 9 dc, 5 hdc, 2 dc (41)
4: WS turn ch, 16 sc, (2 sc, inc) x 3, 16 sc

Cut the yarn and leave a short tail for sewing. Sew this piece with the straight side between the lower legs at the join, with the right side facing out.

Heart

Use red yarn:

1: 6 sc in MR
2: 6 inc (12)
3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 (18)
4-5: 2 rounds (18)

Crochet 2 pieces. On the first piece, leave a short tail for sewing. On the second piece, do not cut the yarn and continue by joining the first piece:

1: On the first piece, count 4 sc back from the end of the round and insert the hook, crochet 14 sc. Then on the second piece, skip 4 sc from the beginning of the round, insert the hook, and crochet 14 sc (28). You will have a hole in the middle; close it and sew the two halves together with the remaining yarn tail from the first piece.

Pull the opening closed, cut the yarn, and hide the tail. Sew the heart to the paws. Glue on the eyes and nose. Embroider the eye whites, eyelashes, mouth, and eyebrows.
