Crochet Amigurumi Plush Pigs Pattern

We begin crocheting with the arms because later we will crochet them in as we work.

Arms (make 2)

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR (6)
Rnd 2: (1 sc, inc) x 3 (9)
Rnd 3: (2 sc, inc) x 3 (12)
Rnd 4: 12 sc (12)
Firmly stuff the arm. Do not stuff the rest of the piece.
Rnd 5: (2 sc, dec) x 3 (9)
Rnds 6-12: 6 rounds of 9 sc (9)
Rnd 13: fold the edges of the piece together and crochet 4 sc through both layers of the arm.

Legs (make 2)

The legs, body, and head are crocheted as one piece. Crochet with plush yarn:

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR (6)
Rnd 2: 6 inc (12)
Rnd 3: 12 sc (12)
Change to smooth yarn and crochet the pants. If you are crocheting the whole pig from plush yarn, simply follow the pattern without changing yarn:
Rnds 4-7: 4 rounds of 12 sc (12)

Fasten off the first leg, cut the yarn, and weave in the end. Continue crocheting from the second leg:

Rnd 8: 6 sc along one leg, make a chain of 3 ch, join to the other leg and crochet 12 sc around the other leg, then 3 sc along the ch chain and 6 sc around the first leg (30) (the beginning-of-round marker will be on the side of the work).

Body

Continue crocheting the body:

Rnd 9: (4 sc, inc) x 6 (36)
Rnd 10: 36 sc (36)
Rnd 11: (5 sc, inc) x 6 (42)
Rnds 12-18: 7 rounds of 42 sc (42)
Firmly stuff the legs
Rnd 19: (5 sc, dec) x 6 (36)
Rnd 20: (4 sc, dec) x 6 (30)
Change to Softy yarn:
Rnds 21-22: 30 sc (30)
Rnd 23: (3 sc, dec) x 6 (24)
Rnd 24: 24 sc (24)

Firmly stuff the body.

Rnd 25: (2 sc, dec) x 6 (18)
In the next round, we will crochet in the arms:
Rnd 26: 7 sc, place one arm against the body and crochet 4 sc through the arm and body stitches together, 5 sc, place the second arm and crochet 4 sc (2 sc from Rnd 26 and 2 sc from the next Rnd 27) through the arm and body stitches together. The beginning of the round will shift by 2 stitches (20)
Rnd 27: (1 sc, dec) x 6 (12)
Rnd 28: 10 sc (10) - incomplete round; crochet 2 fewer stitches so the beginning of the round shifts back and sits exactly on the side above the shoulder.
Rnd 29: 12 inc (24)
Rnd 30: (1 sc, inc) x 12 (36)
Rnd 31: 36 sc (36)
Rnd 32: (2 sc, inc) x 12 (48)
Rnds 33-38: 6 rounds of 48 sc (48)
Rnd 39: (2 sc, dec) x 6, 24 sc (42) - IMPORTANT!!! the decreases must be exactly in the middle of the face. If needed, crochet extra sc to shift your position!
Rnd 40: 42 sc (42)
Rnd 41: (5 sc, dec) x 6 (36)
Rnd 42: 36 sc (36)
Rnd 43: (4 sc, dec) x 6 (30)
Rnd 44: 30 sc (30)
Rnd 45: (3 sc, dec) x 6 (24)
Rnd 46: 24 sc (24)

Stuff the head. Pay special attention to the neck. Add extra stuffing to the cheeks.

Rnd 47: (2 sc, dec) x 6 (18)
Rnd 48: (1 sc, dec) x 6 (12)
Rnd 49: (dec) x 6 (6)

Finish stuffing the head so there are no empty spaces. Pull the opening closed, fasten off, cut the yarn, and weave in the end.

Ears (make 2)

Leave a 15-20 cm yarn tail for sewing the ears to the head.

Row 1: chain 6, starting in the second ch from the hook crochet 5 sc (5)
Row 2: turning chain (tch), inc, 3 sc, inc (7)
Row 3: tch, inc, 5 sc, inc (9)
Rows 4-5: 2 rows - tch, 9 sc (9)
Row 6: tch, dec, 5 sc, dec (7)
Row 7: tch, dec, 3 sc, dec (5)
Row 8: tch, dec, 1 sc, dec (3)
Row 9: tch, 3 sc (3)
Row 10: 3 sc with one top (3-sc dec) (1)

Fasten off, cut the yarn, and weave in the end. Fold the lower part of the ear in half and sew it with a few stitches. Sew the ears to the head.

Tail

Chain 8, starting in the second ch from the hook crochet inc in each stitch (14), and leave a yarn tail for sewing.

Snout

Chain 4, starting in the second ch from the hook:

Rnd 1: 2 sc, 3 sc in the last stitch, 1 sc, 1 inc (8)
Rnd 2: 8 half double crochet (8)

Fasten off and cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing on the snout.

For those who want to crochet a larger snout:

Rnd 1: same as above
Rnd 2: 2 inc, 1 sc, 3 inc, 1 sc, inc (14)
Rnd 3: 14 half double crochet (14)

Toy Assembly

  • Sculpt the face. For sculpting, you can use strong thread in a matching color, or use the same yarn you used to crochet the pig. However, Softy yarn is not very strong, so the sculpting should be done carefully. Insert the needle with thread at point 1 from below, under the chin, and bring it out at point 2 near the left eye. Then insert the needle at point 3 near the right eye and bring it out at point 1 under the chin. Slightly flatten the cheeks from above and below and tie the thread ends. Repeat the sculpting. Secure and hide the thread ends.
  • Sew on the snout. To do this, place the snout on top of the flat area formed after sculpting the cheeks and sew around it.
  • Sew on 5 mm bead eyes, or glue on half-bead eyes.
  • Use bright pink or raspberry-colored thread to embroider the eyebrows, nostrils, and a smile.
  • Shade the snout, cheeks, and a little inside the ears with soft pastels.
  • Sew the tail to the back.

Cap for the Piglet

Chain enough stitches to fit around your piglet's head. I got 30 ch. Join into a ring with a slip stitch, make a turning chain, and crochet in the round:

Rnds 1-2: 1 tch, 30 sc, sl st (30)
Next, crochet the visor in turning rows:
Row 3: in the front loop only - (inc, 1 sc) x 4, inc (14), turn
Row 4: dec, 10 sc, dec (12), turn
Row 5: dec, 3 sc, dec, 3 sc, dec (9), turn
Row 6: dec, 5 sc, dec (7)

To make the cap visor neater, you can crochet around the cap with slip stitches.
