Plush Dog Rex

Free crochet tutorial for Rex the Dog by @bumbee_crochet.

With this pattern, you can crochet a plush dog. Any plush yarn and matching hook size will work for this amigurumi. Yarn usage is less than half a skein of the main color when crocheted tightly.

Finished toy size is about 19 cm.

Materials and tools

• Himalaya Dolphin Baby yarn: less than half a skein in the main color + a tiny amount of an extra color
• Alize Softy yarn: white and any other color for the spot
• Alize Cotton Gold yarn: brown for the nose and white for the inner ear pieces
• 3.5 mm crochet hook (main) and 1.75 mm (for cotton)
• Black and white thread for face details
• 12 mm safety eyes
• Fiberfill
• Sewing needle for assembling parts
• Scissors

Muzzle (Alize Softy)

Chain 5, then starting in the 2nd ch from hook, crochet:

Round 1: 3 sc, 3 sc in last ch, along the other side of the chain: 2 sc, inc (10 sc)
Round 2: inc, 2 sc, 3 inc, 2 sc, 2 inc (16 sc)
Round 3: 1 sc, inc, 2 sc, (1 sc, inc) x 3, 2 sc, (1 sc, inc) x 2 (22 sc)
Round 4: 2 sc, inc, 2 sc, (2 sc, inc) x 3, 2 sc, (2 sc, inc) x 2 (28 sc)
Rounds 5-7: 28 sc (3 rounds)

Fasten off and cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Spot (Alize Softy)

Round 1: 6 sc in MR
Round 2: (1 sc, 3 sc in 1 stitch) x 3 (12 sc)
Round 3: (2 sc, 2 inc) x 3 (18 sc)
Round 4: 4 sc, 3 sc in 1 stitch, (5 sc, 3 sc in 1 stitch) x 2, 1 sc (24 sc)

Fasten off and cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Head and body

Round 1: 9 sc in MR

Stuff the head. Pin and sew on the muzzle. Pin and sew on the spot. Insert safety eyes about 4 sc apart.

Stuff the body.

Pull closed the opening. Hide the yarn tail inside the toy.

Fold the piece in half and crochet 4 sc through both layers. Fasten off and cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Legs (make 2)

Rounds 3-4: 12 sc (2 rounds)
Round 5: (4 sc, dec) x 2 (10 sc)

Fold the piece in half and crochet 5 sc through both layers. Fasten off and cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Toy assembly

• Sew inner ear pieces to the ears
• Sew ears and nose to the head
• Sew arms to the body between rounds 19 and 20
• Sew legs to the body between rounds 25 and 26
