Monkey

A free crochet tutorial for Monkey by Natalia Lebedeva @ecoigryshki.

Using this pattern, you can crochet a plush monkey boy and monkey girl. Any plush yarn works for this amigurumi project: Himalaya Dolphin Baby, YarnArt Dolce, Kamteks Velur, and others.

The finished toy measures about 30-33 cm.

Materials and tools

• Plush yarn in brown and beige
• Plush yarn in different colors (for clothing)
• Vita Coco yarn in black and white (for sewing on the eyes)
• 4.0-4.5 mm crochet hook
• Toy stuffing
• Needle
• Scissors

Head

Use brown yarn.

Fasten off and hide the yarn tail.

Muzzle

1. 6 ch, into the 2nd chain, 3 sc, 3 sc in the last chain, 4 sc (12).
Crochet in the round.

Now make a chain stitch and turn the work.

Fasten off the yarn.

Body

You can crochet it entirely in brown. If in clothing, pick colors to your taste. A dress for the girl, a shirt and pants for the boy. For the boy version, I alternated leftover yarn and got a striped shirt. Crochet from bottom to top. For the girl, use the dress color, and for the boy, use the pants color.

Start crocheting.

If making the boy version, change yarn and crochet the shirt.
8. Crochet 30 sc in back loop only.

For the girl, attach the skirt on this round, and for the boy this is the join between the shirt and pants. If the girl will have a removable skirt, crochet this round through both loops.

Stuff the body

Arms (make 2)

Crochet with beige yarn.

Stuff the beige part. I do not stuff the arm itself. Change the yarn to the shirt color or body color.

5-15. 6 sc (11 rounds)

Fold and crochet through both layers: 3 sc.

Legs (make 2)

Crochet with beige yarn. You can use shoe color if you want.

Stuff. Change yarn to brown for the girl or to the pants color for the boy. Crochet the legs in these colors for 13-15 rounds (adjust to your own stitch tension). I crocheted 14 rounds for the girl and 15 for the boy. Stuff only a little, not tightly. Fold and crochet through both loops: 4 sc.

Tail

Start crocheting with beige yarn.

2-3. 6 sc

Change yarn to brown. Crochet as many rounds of 6 sc as you like. I crocheted 20 brown rounds. Do not stuff the tail. Do not close it, because later we will sew it on in a circle.

Ears (make 2)

Start crocheting with beige yarn.

3. Change yarn to brown. Crochet this round not as usual, but (2 sc, inc) x 4 (16)

This helps the ear curl better.

Eyes (make 2)

Crochet with black Vita Coco yarn or an equivalent. Do not crochet too tightly so you can embroider on the eyes.

Leave a yarn tail for sewing. Embroider white highlights on the eyes.

Toy assembly

• Sew all parts in place
• Shape the muzzle
• For the girl version, all that is left is to attach a plush skirt to round 8: crochet a round of sc, making 2 inc on each side
