Base
Start with dark blue yarn.
Round 1. 6 sc in MR (6)
Round 2. inc x 6 (12)
Round 3. (1 sc, inc) x 6 (18)
Round 4. 1 sc, inc, (2 sc, inc) x 5, 1 sc (24)
Round 5. (3 sc, inc) x 6 (30)
Round 6. 2 sc, inc, (4 sc, inc) x 5, 2 sc (36)
Round 7. (5 sc, inc) x 6 (42)
Round 8. 3 sc, inc, (6 sc, inc) x 5, 3 sc (48)
Round 9. (7 sc, inc) x 6 (54)
Round 10. 4 sc, inc, (8 sc, inc) x 5, 4 sc (60)
Round 11. (9 sc, inc) x 6 (66)
Round 12. 5 sc, inc, (10 sc, inc) x 5, 5 sc (72)
Place the crocheted circle against the bottom of the jar. If the diameters match, continue following the pattern. If not, add one more increase round, or undo a round instead. In that case, continue with your own stitch counts, but the principle remains the same.

Round 13. Crochet 72 sc in back loops only (72)
Rounds 14-20. Crochet 72 sc (72) (7 rounds)
Switch to yellow yarn.
Round 21. Crochet 72 sc in back loops only (72)
Rounds 22-36. Crochet 72 sc (72) (15 rounds)
Switch to black yarn.
Rounds 37-39. Crochet 72 sc (72) (3 rounds)
Switch to yellow yarn.
Rounds 40-51. Crochet 72 sc (72) (12 rounds)
Fasten off, cut, and hide the yarn tail. Mark the front of the base: this is where we will make the Minion overalls. Attach dark blue yarn to the half-loops of round 20 and crochet 14 sc, then continue in turning rows as follows.
Rows 2-5. 1 ch turning chain, turn, 14 sc (4 rows)
Continue edging around the overalls with sc. Along the edge of the overalls, in the half-loops of round 20, crochet 36 sc. Then continue in turning rows.
Rows 2-4. 1 ch turning chain, turn, 14 sc (3 rows)
Now crochet straps for the overalls. Chain 31 ch, and starting from the second chain from the hook, crochet 30 sc along the chain. Then crochet 14 sc along the edge of the overalls, chain 31 ch again, and from the second chain from the hook crochet 30 sc along the chain. The straps are done. Finish edging the overalls to the end.

Legs (2 pieces)
Start with black yarn.
Round 1. 6 sc in MR (6)
Round 2. inc x 6 (12)
Round 3. (1 sc, inc) x 6 (18)
Rounds 4-8. Crochet 18 sc (5 rounds)
Lightly stuff. Crochet 9 sc through loops on both sides. Leave a tail for sewing.
Arms (2 pieces)
Start with black yarn.
Round 1. 6 sc in MR (6)
Round 2. inc x 6 (12)
Rounds 3-6. Crochet 12 sc (4 rounds)
Round 7. (2 sc, dec) x 3 (9)
Switch to yellow yarn.
Rounds 8-19. Crochet 9 sc (9) (12 rounds)
Stuff the arms, but do not pack the upper part too tightly. Crochet 4 sc through loops on both sides. Leave a tail for sewing. Sew the arms at round 33, symmetrically from the center of the overalls. Make sure the strap reaches the front of the overalls. Sew the legs to the half-loops of round 12. Sew the straps to the front of the overalls.
Eye
Start with milk chocolate color yarn.
Round 1. 6 sc in MR (6)
Round 2. inc x 6 (12)
Switch to white yarn.
Round 3. (1 sc, inc) x 6 (18)
Round 4. 1 sc, inc, (2 sc, inc) x 5, 1 sc (24)
Round 5. (3 sc, inc) x 6 (30)
Round 6. 2 sc, inc, (4 sc, inc) x 5, 2 sc (36)
Round 7. (5 sc, inc) x 6 (42)
Switch to gray yarn.
Round 8. Crochet 42 sc in front loops only (42)
Rounds 9-11. Crochet 42 sc (42) (3 rounds)
Fold the gray part to the right side. Embroider a white highlight on the eye. Sew the eye to the base on the black stripe. Sew the eye fully around the edge.

To keep the base firmly on the jar, tie the jar and base together with a cord. Chain 125 ch. Thread each end of the cord through beads, tie knots at the ends so the beads do not fall off. Wrap the top of the pencil holder with the cord and tie it into a bow.
