Plush Donkey in a Skirt

Free crochet tutorial for the Plush Donkey in a Skirt by Irina Artemova @irinely_art.

With this pattern, you can crochet a plush donkey girl in a skirt. Any plush yarn will work for this amigurumi: Himalaya Dolphin Baby, YarnArt Dolce, NAKO Bonbon Panda Baby, Etrofil YONCA Baby, and others.

The finished toy measures about 17-18 cm.

Materials and Tools

• Plush yarn: Himalaya Dolphin Baby (80351 light gray, about 65 g)
• Plush yarn: Himalaya Dolphin Baby (80301 white, about 16-18 g) for the ears and muzzle
• Plush yarn: Himalaya Dolphin Baby (80311 black) for the paw tips
• Alize Baby Best yarn (40 light blue), Alize Baby Best (55 white) for the skirt
• Acrylic yarn (black) for the mane
• 2.5 mm and 4 mm crochet hooks
• 9 mm safety eyes
• Synthetic poly filling
• Thread for sewing the pieces together
• White felt

For the tail, prepare hair strands from multiple pieces of yarn about 7-8 cm long and attach them as shown in the photos:

Ears (2 pieces)

For one ear, make two pieces: one gray and one white.

1: 12 ch
2: Starting in the second chain from the hook, 11 sc, 1 tch, turn
3: 9 sc, sl st, 1 tch, turn
4: 10 sc, 1 tch, turn
5: 4 sc, sl st

Place the two pieces together and crochet around them with single crochet stitches.

Eyes (2 pieces)

Cut two oval pieces from white felt for the eyes. Approximate size: 2.5 x 2.2 cm.

Head

Stuff as you crochet.

Gray yarn:
10-16: 36 sc (7 rounds)

At this stage, you can work on the eyes. Make a small slit in the felt circles, insert the safety eye post through it, and place the eyes between rounds 11 and 12 of the head.

Secure with the backing. Sew the felt pieces on with white thread.

Pull the opening closed.

Then embroider the nose and sew all the pieces together.

Base for the Mane

Black yarn:
1: 16 ch
2: Starting in the second chain from the hook, 15 sc, 1 tch, turn
3: 15 sc

Now make the mane. For this, prepare lots of hair strands from black yarn about 8-9 cm long. The attachment method is exactly the same as for the tail.

Skirt

First, make the base for the skirt. Be sure to try it on the toy so you can determine the correct length of the starting chain.

White yarn:
1: 70 ch (your number may be different) + 1 tch
2: Starting in the second chain from the hook, 70 sc, 1 tch, turn
3: 70 sc, 1 tch
4: 70 sc in back loop only, 1 tch
5: 70 sc

Leave a short tail and secure it so the work does not unravel. Then cut the yarn.

Insert the hook into the outer half-loop formed in round 4, then switch to light blue yarn:

1: 2 tch, work 2 dc in each stitch across the row, 2 tch, turn
2: Work 1 dc in each stitch across the row, 2 tch, turn
3: Work 1 dc in each stitch across the row, turn

White yarn:
4: 1 tch, work 1 sc in each stitch across the row

Fasten off the yarn ends and trim them.

All that remains is to sew the skirt on securely with white thread:
