Free Hedgehogs Bride and Groom crochet tutorial by Galina Egorova @galina_knitted_toys.

With this pattern, you can crochet a pair of hedgehogs. Any cotton blend yarn will work for the amigurumi, and fuzzy eyelash yarn is used for the spines. The toys are worked in a spiral without turning chains unless stated otherwise.

These toys can make an original gift for newlyweds or an anniversary, or they can be used as a wedding decoration.

Finished toy size: about 10 cm while sitting.

Spines

Use Alize Decofur Fancy yarn and a 3.75 mm hook (or 4 mm). When working with this yarn, I recommend placing 2 markers: one at the beginning of the round and one in the middle.

Rnd 1. 2 ch, work 6 sc in the second chain from the hook (place an additional marker between the 3rd and 4th stitches) (6)
Rnd 2. 6 inc (12)
Rnd 3. (1 sc, inc) x 6 times (18)
Rnd 4. (1 sc, inc, 1 sc) x 6 times (24)
Rnd 5. (3 sc, inc) x 6 times (30)
Rnd 6. (2 sc, inc, 2 sc) x 6 times (36)
Rnd 7. 14 sc, turn your work.

From here on, turn your work after each row. When crocheting even rows, it is best to insert the hook from the inside:

Row 15. 1 sc, dec, 8 sc, dec, 1 sc (12)

Crochet around the piece with single crochet stitches, cut the yarn, and fasten off.

Rnd 3. (5 sc, inc) x 9 times (63)

Rnd 5. (7 sc, inc) x 9 times (81)
Rnd 6. (4 sc, inc, 4 sc) x 9 times (90)

Cut the yarn, fasten off, and hide the tail. Crochet around the top of the skirt with slip stitches. If desired, sew lace along the bottom edge of the skirt.

Flower

Use white yarn.

Make a chain of 50 ch, then crochet starting in the second chain from the hook: inc, 1 sc, and so on to the end of the row. Leave a tail for sewing, cut the yarn, and fasten off. Roll the finished piece into a spiral and secure the rose with several stitches.

Assembling the Toys

  • Use the photo below as a guide when assembling the pieces. First, sew on the muzzle. The top of the muzzle should sit between rounds 8 and 9, where the eyes were inserted.
  • Next, embroider the eyebrows and mouth. For the girl, embroider eyelashes too. Hide the threads at the back of the head, which will later be covered by the spines.
  • Try on the spines, then sew them in place.
  • Sew on the ears.
  • Then sew on the arms, securing the palms to the belly with one stitch.
  • Sew on the legs.

Sew on the accessories. The skirt does not need to be sewn on; simply put it on. Tint the muzzles with pastel pencils, then add highlights to the eyes and noses.
