Rounds 7-11: 8 sc
Round 12: dec x 4 times = 4
Close the opening. Leave a tail for sewing.
Tail
Chain 10 (you can attach the yarn right away to round 7 of the body on the back). Cut the yarn and pull it through. Make a tassel at the end of the tail. Trim the strands evenly.
Toy Assembly
Sew the horns to the head first, then the ears, cheeks, and tongue. Use the tongue tail to embroider the mouth. With black thread, embroider curved eyes - the giraffe looks happy.
Count about 7 rounds up from the bottom of the body and sew on the legs.

Count about 8 rounds down from the top of the body and sew on the arms. Pin the arms and legs in place first. I used thread jointing so the arms and legs can move.
Join the head to the body using the tail left from the body. The head tilts slightly downward because of the hdc stitches in the last body round.
Sew on the tail at the level of body round 7. The giraffe is ready! Let's crochet a treat for it.
Watermelon Slice
Start with red yarn.
Round 1: 6 sc in MR
Round 2: inc x 6 times = 12
Round 3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 times = 18
Round 4: (inc, 2 sc) x 6 times = 24

Round 6: 1 sc, inc, (4 sc, inc) x 5 times, 3 sc = 36
Round 7: (5 sc, inc) x 6 times = 42
Switch to light pink.
Round 8: 2 sc, inc, (6 sc, inc) x 5 times, 4 sc = 48
Continue with white yarn.
Round 9: (7 sc, inc) x 6 times = 54
Next, switch to green yarn.
Round 10: 3 sc, inc, (8 sc, inc) x 5 times, 5 sc = 60
Round 11 in BLO: (3 sc, dec, 7 sc, dec, 7 sc, dec, 4 sc, 3-dec) x 2 times
Finish with light green.
Round 12: dec, 19 sc, dec, 3-dec, dec, 19 sc, dec, dec

Leave a tail for sewing. Start sewing the piece and stuff it at the end (not too firmly!). Embroider black "seeds" with a needle through both sides of the slice. Give the watermelon to your giraffe. The toy is ready!
