Toy Assembly
Before sewing, pin all parts in place to check symmetry.
SEW THE NOSE to the head so that its center is at the level of row 11 of the head.
SEW THE EYES very close to each other above the nose (~row 9) using reinforced thread folded in half. Mark one hole between stitches at the bottom back of the head for inserting and removing the needle; all yarn tails will come out through this hole. Repeat the following steps for both eyes:
- Insert the needle into the selected hole so that a thread tail remains for tying.
- Then bring it out at the eye attachment point.
- After threading on the eye, bring it back through the hole at the back of the head.
At the end, lightly tighten the thread tails from each eye and tie them together with several knots. Then bring them through the same hole and inside the head (so the knots are hidden inside).
SEW THE HEAD on approximately the second-to-last body round (3 rounds above the arms), along the line of maximum contact with the body. Alternately catch stitches from the head fabric and then stitches from the body fabric.
POSITION THE BEARD so that the yarn tail left for sewing is on the toy's right side. The central beard dip should be directly under the nose, and the side corners of the beard should be secured roughly under the row where the eyes are attached. Sew through the back loops.
SEW THE HAT along the edge so that on the front, the distance from the eyes to the hat edge is 1 round, and on the back, the hat edge sits flush with the bottom of the head.
SEW THE BOOTS to the bottom center of the body, with 1-1.5 rounds from the center to the inner edge of each boot.
BOTTOM COAT TRIM. The right side is the side where the face of row 1 sc is visible. In the front and on the sides, sew it under body row 9; at the back, sew it slightly higher so the trim sits as level as possible. At the end, stitch the trim edges together.
