Amigurumi crochet car

With this tutorial, you can crochet a car. Any yarn and a matching crochet hook will work for this amigurumi project. You can use the car as a keychain for a bag, backpack, or keys.

Materials and tools

  • Yarn
  • Crochet hook
  • 4 buttons
  • Toy stuffing
  • Needle
  • Scissors

  • sc — single crochet
  • sl st — slip stitch

Top part

Start with the main color. Work in turning rows.

Chain 6, starting in the second chain from the hook:
1-5: 5 sc, 1 ch, turn
6: 5 sc

Next, edge the rectangle all around:
7: 6 sc along the side of the rectangle, sc along the back side, 5 sc along the second side, 6 sc along the front = 22

Change to gray yarn (or another window color):
8: inc, 5 sc, inc, 4 sc, inc, 5 sc, inc, 4 sc = 26
9: 26 sc = 26
10: inc, 7 sc, inc, 4 sc, inc, 7 sc, inc, 4 sc = 30
11: 30 sc = 30

Add 1 or 2 offset stitches so you reach the cab corner. On the last offset stitch, change yarn color back to the main one.

12: 3 sc in 1, 7 sc, 3 sc in 1, 6 sc, 3 sc in 1, 7 sc, 3 sc in 1, 6 sc = 38

Add 1 sc, 1 ch, turn. Then work in turning rows:
13-15: 8 sc, 1 ch, turn

Then work in the round:
16: 8 sc along the front of the hood, 8 sc along the side of the hood, 30 sc around the body, 3 sc along the side of the hood = 44
17-19: 44 sc = 44

Make 1 sl st, fasten off, and cut the yarn.

Bottom part

Using the main color, work in turning rows.

Chain 7, starting in the second chain from the hook:
1-13: 6 sc, 1 ch, turn
14: 6 sc

Edge the rectangle all around:
15: inc, 12 sc, inc — along the side of the rectangle, 6 sc — along the lower side, inc, 12 sc, inc — along the second side, 6 sc — along the top side = 44

Assembly and finishing

  • Stuff the top part of the car and sew the bottom part to it, joining each of the 44 stitches of the top part to each of the 44 stitches of the bottom part. Or edge them together with slip stitches.
  • Embroider vertical lines on the windows with yarn in the main color to mark the windows and doors.
  • Embroider the headlights and the radiator grille.
  • Sew on buttons as wheels.
