Plumpy the Cat

Free crochet tutorial for Plumpy the Cat by Olga Melnikova @olgamelnikova_toys_.

With this pattern, you can crochet a plush cat. Any fluffy yarn will work for this amigurumi project: Alize Softy (held double), Alize Softy Plus, Adelia Sofia, and others. Experience crocheting with fluffy yarn is required.

The finished toy measures about 28 cm.

• Softy Plus yarn (1.5 skeins)
• 2.5 mm crochet hook
• Black thread for embroidering the face
• 1.5 cm safety eyes

Fold the ear in half, crochet 10 sc through both sides, cut the yarn leaving a 25 cm tail, and fasten off. Use this yarn tail to sew on the ears and make the eyelids.

Insert the eyes between rounds 10 and 11, with 10 stitches between them.

Shaping the Head

Sew the ears to the head, then bring the yarn tail out at the outer upper corner of the eye, as shown in the photo. You will use these yarn tails to make the eyelids.

Make the eye sculpting. Insert the needle at the bottom of the head, bring it out at the corner of the eye, insert it into the inner corner of the eye, and bring it out through the same stitch at the bottom of the head.

Repeat for the second eye. Pull the yarn ends, press the eyes inward with your fingers to the desired depth, tighten, and tie a knot. Hide the yarn ends inside the head. Make sure both eyes are symmetrical.

Embroider the eyes, mouth, and nose with black thread. Start with the nose. If you have a ready-made safety nose, you can insert it.

Tighten the thread and tie a knot. Mark the spot for the nose and continue embroidering.

When embroidering the eyes, the thread should pass along the eye. First embroider one eye, then the other, return to the first one, make one more stitch, catch the previous thread, and embroider the wing. Embroider the wing on the second eye and bring the needle out in the mouth area.

Mark the spot for embroidering the lips. Embroider the eyebrows and whiskers.

Hide all yarn ends inside the head and tie a knot.

Make the eyelids with plush yarn. Bring the yarn into the head at the point where the eye wing ends on both eyes. Tighten slightly and tie a knot.

After the face is fully shaped, begin crocheting the body. The head and body are crocheted as one piece.
