Bunny with a Bow

Free crochet pattern for a Bunny with a Bow by Stefania Plakhota @stefis.

With this pattern, you can crochet a bunny from the animated short "When the Christmas Trees Light Up". Any yarn and a suitable hook will work for this amigurumi project.

Crochet Pattern for an Amigurumi Bunny from the Animated Short "When the Christmas Trees Light Up"

Ears (Make 2)

Start with the ears, because we will crochet them in later instead of sewing them on separately. I did not take many process photos because I was not planning to make a bunny tutorial, but I do have a few and will add them.

Round 1: 6 sc in MR (6)
Round 2: inc in each st (12)
Rounds 3-11: 12 sc (12)

Crochet the second ear the same way. Do not leave a tail for sewing, because the ears will be crocheted in later.

Head

Round 1: 6 sc in MR (6)

Pull the opening closed. Join the ears to each other with one stitch, roughly in the middle of the ears, so they stay folded together. You can also do this later.

Body

Add stuffing. Leave a tail for sewing on the head. Sew on the head.

Add stuffing, fold the arm in half, and crochet through both layers with single crochet stitches to close it. Crochet the second arm the same way.

Legs (Make 2)

With gray yarn:

Round 1: ch 7, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, crochet 5 sc along the chain, work 3 sc into the last stitch, then continue on the other side of the chain: 4 sc, inc (14)
Round 2: inc, 4 sc, 3 inc, 4 sc, 2 inc (20)
Change to white yarn:
Round 3: inc, 5 sc, (1 sc, inc) x 4 times, 5 sc, inc (26 sc)
Rounds 4-5: 26 sc (26)
Round 6: 7 sc, (1 sc, dec) x 4 times, 7 sc (22)
Round 7: 7 sc, 4 dec, 7 sc (18)
Round 8: 3 sc, 6 dec, 3 sc (12)

Add stuffing.
Round 18: dec in each st (6)

Pull the opening closed. Crochet the second leg the same way. The leg pattern itself was copied from the internet (a pattern for some bunny in free access) with a few small changes of my own. Unfortunately, I cannot credit the author because I simply wrote down the bunny pattern and did not save the author's name. Sew on the legs and arms. I attached them with thread joints so they would be movable.

Tail

Round 1: 6 sc in MR (6)
Round 2: inc in each st (12)

Round 6: 3 sc, 6 dec, 3 sc (12)
Add stuffing.
Round 7: crochet 6 dec

Sew the tail to the bunny.

Shorts

Use red yarn. I will not give detailed instructions for the shorts because they need to be adjusted to fit your own bunny. The size depends on your crochet tension, hook size, and yarn thickness. I used a 4 mm hook and Souffle yarn.

Row 1: I made a chain of 30 ch + 7 stitches for the button loop
Row 2: 30 sc, turning ch, turn (work in turned rows for now)
Row 3: 30 sc, ch, turn
Row 4: 30 sc, ch, turn
Row 5: inc, 28 sc, inc (32), turn
Round 6: 32 sc. At this point, join the shorts and continue crocheting in the round. Try them on your own bunny as you go; I adjusted them to mine.
Round 7: Make 2 inc in the round (34)
Round 8: 10 sc, inc, 10 sc, inc, 8 sc. Here I made a chain of 8 ch, skipped 7 stitches, and continued crocheting into the eighth stitch. This is the opening for the tail.

Continue crocheting in the round to the desired length. Work sc over the ch chain, crocheting under the chain. You can make 2-3 inc in the rounds until you reach the width you need. Try the shorts on the bunny. Once the shorts reach the desired length, fold them in half and join 4 sc in the middle, or sew them with a needle. I joined mine on the wrong side with sc.

Turn the shorts right side out again and sew on the button. Glue on the eyes, embroider the eyebrows, mouth, and nose. Tie the red bow around the neck. Your bunny is ready!
