Bat Brooch

Free Bat crochet tutorial by Anna Solomonova @asol_toys.

With this pattern, you can crochet a bat-shaped brooch. The author recommends crocheting on the wrong side, because it is easier to make rows of 4 stitches that way. The legs and body are crocheted as one piece.

Finished toy size is about 7 cm (including the ears).

Materials and tools

• Iris yarn: violet, pink, black, white
• 1 mm crochet hook
• 3-4 mm safety eyes
• Toy stuffing
• Black sewing thread
• 10 cm wire (1 mm thick)
• Instant glue
• Brooch base
• Needle for sewing pieces together
• Scissors

Legs + body

1: 4 in MR
2: (1 sc, inc) x 2 (6)
3-4: 6 sc

After crocheting the first leg, cut the yarn. Crochet the second one the same way; without cutting the yarn, make 6 ch, join to the first leg, and continue with the body:

6 sc around one leg, 6 sc along the ch, 6 sc around the second leg, and 6 sc along the ch - 24 sc

1-6: 24 sc. The decreases should be on the sides of the body; if needed, crochet offset stitches
7: 2 sc, dec, 10 sc, dec, 8 sc (22)

Finish crocheting: cut and fasten off the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing on the head. Stuff, but not too firmly.

Stuff the piece lightly so it stays flat.

Pull the opening closed, cut the yarn, and fasten off.

Arms (2 pieces)

Do not stuff. Cut and fasten off the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Fold the piece in half and crochet through both sides: 18 sc. Cut the yarn, fasten off, and leave a long tail for sewing.

Wing

Always crochet in the back loop only (BLO).

Make 10 ch. Starting from the second chain from the hook, crochet as follows: sl st, sc, 2 hdc, 3 dc, 3 ch

Turn the work and, starting from the second chain from the hook, crochet 9 sl st

Repeat this sequence 8 times. Leave a long tail for sewing.
