Baby Groot amigurumi crochet pattern from Guardians of the Galaxy
Legs, body, and head
These are crocheted as one piece. Start with the legs:
1. 6 sc in MR - 6
2. 2 sc, 1 inc, 3 sc - 7
3. 7 sc
Cut the yarn. Crochet the second leg the same way, then work 2 ch at the end. Join the legs.
Next, crochet the body
1. 18 sc
2. 3 sc, 1 inc, 8 sc, 1 inc, 5 sc - 20
3-6. 20 sc each round
7. 3 sc, 1 dec, 8 sc, 1 dec, 5 sc - 18
8. 3 sc, 1 dec, 7 sc, 1 dec, 4 sc - 16
9. (1 dec, 2 sc) 4 times - 12
Stuff the body; do not cut the yarn.
Next comes the head
Continue crocheting from the last body round.
1. in front loop only (1 inc, 1 sc) 6 times - 18
2. (1 inc, 2 sc) 6 times - 24
3. (1 inc, 3 sc) 6 times - 30
4-9. 30 sc each round; if you are using eyes with posts, attach them at the level of round 6.
10. in back loop only (1 dec, 3 sc) 6 times - 24
11. (1 dec, 2 sc) 6 times - 18
Stuff the head.
12. (1 dec, 1 sc) 6 times - 12
13. 6 dec - 6
Cut the yarn, close the top, and hide the tail. Then attach the yarn to the remaining half loops in round 10.
10a. 1 ch, 1 hdc, 2 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 sl st, 1 sc, 2 hdc, 2 dc, 1 sc, 1 sl st, 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 2 sc, 1 sl st, 1 ch, 1 hdc, 4 dc, 2 hdc, 1 sc. At the end, crochet a slip stitch into the beginning of the round.
Arms
1. 6 sc in MR - 6
2-4. 6 sc each round
5. 1 dec, 4 sc - 5
Leave a long tail for sewing, then sew the arms to the body.
All that is left is to give the character a little "woodiness" :) Crochet a long chain of ch (I used 57 ch, but you can make it any length) - these will be shoots (twigs? vines?) that run along Groot's body. Pin them in place where they look best, then sew them on (or glue them, as I did).
All that remains is to glue on the eyes (if you have not done it yet), embroider the mouth with black embroidery floss, and add small green moss spots (or little leaves). And here he is, our Baby Groot!
