Cat in a Sweater

Free Cat in a Sweater crochet tutorial by Darya Saltevskaya @dary_toys.
With this pattern, you can crochet a plush cat in an autumn sweater. Any plush yarn will work for the toy. The sweater is crocheted from cotton blend yarn.
The finished toy is about 12 cm tall.
Materials and tools
- Himalaya Dolphin Baby yarn (black, less than half a skein)
- Gazzal Baby Cotton yarn (any color, for the sweater)
- 3 mm crochet hook for the cat and 2.5 mm hook for the sweater
- White cotton thread for embroidering whiskers
- 14 mm safety eyes
- 10 mm safety nose
- Toy stuffing
- A needle for sewing
- Scissors

Legs (2 pieces)
1. 7 sc in MR
2. 7 sc, sl st
Cut the yarn on one leg and fasten off. Do not cut the yarn on the second leg; continue crocheting the body:
3. Ch 1, join the second leg, crochet 7 sc around it, inc in the chain stitch, 7 sc around the first leg, inc in the chain stitch (18)
4. (2 sc, inc) x 6 (24)
5-9. 24 sc for 5 rounds
10. (2 sc, dec) x 6 (18)
11. (1 sc, dec) x 6 (12)
12. 12 inc (24)
13. (5 sc, inc) x 4 (28)
14-18. 28 sc for 5 rounds

Insert the eyes between rounds 15 and 16. Leave 4 sc between eye placements.

Stuff the body and head.

Add more stuffing, pull the opening closed, and hide the yarn tail.
Muzzle
1. 6 sc in MR
2. 1 sc, inc, 2 sc, inc, 1 sc, sl st
Insert the nose between rounds 1 and 2 so that the increases are on the sides of it. Sew the muzzle close to the eyes. Trim the muzzle pile a little. Embroider whiskers and a mouth with white thread.
Arms (2 pieces)
1. 6 sc in MR
2-3. 6 sc for 2 rounds
Fold each arm in half and crochet 3 sc through both sides. Sew the arms vertically, not exactly on the sides but a little closer to the front.
Ears (2 pieces)
1. 6 sc in MR
2. 6 sc
3. (inc, 1 sc) x 3 (9)
4. (inc, 2 sc) x 3 (12)
Sew the ears so they look like cones. Or however you like.
Tail
1. 6 sc in MR
2-10. 6 sc for 9 rounds
Sew on the tail.
Sweater
Crochet the sweater as a rectangle. The foundation edge is the middle of the back. Depending on your crochet tension and where you sew the arms, you may need to change the number of rows. So crochet and fit as you go.

Ch 10. Into the second chain from the hook:
1-12. 9 sc for 12 rows
Make openings for the arms:
13. 2 sc, ch 6, skip 6 stitches, 2 sc
14-21. 9 sc for 8 rows.
22. Make the second opening for the arms: 2 sc, ch 6, skip 6 stitches, 2 sc
23-34. 9 sc for 12 rows
Make loops and sew on buttons. Thread yarn through the top edge and tie at the back.
