Head

Round 1: 6 sc in MR (6)
Round 2: 6 inc (12)
Round 3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 times (18)

Round 12: 20 sc, 4 inc, 20 sc (48)
Rounds 13-14: 48 sc
The head is a bit tricky in rounds 15-16. Count your stitches carefully, because this is where the trunk begins. This will leave an opening in the face. There should be 10 skipped single stitches and 5 chain stitches. These 5 chain stitches will be included when crocheting the trunk.
Then continue finishing the head in the usual way.
Round 15: 19 sc, 5 ch, skip 10 sc, 19 sc (43) - these 43 stitches include the 5 ch.
Round 16: sc around, including the 5 chain stitches worked through the back loop only (43)
Round 17: 8 sc, 3 dec, 15 sc, 3 dec, 8 sc (37)
Round 18: (2 sc, dec) x 9 times (28)
Round 19: (2 sc, dec) x 7 times (21)
Round 20: (1 sc, dec) x 7 times (14)
Round 21: dec x 7 times (7)
Do not close the neck. Leave it open until you finish crocheting the trunk and make the eyes. They should be sewn through this opening.
Stuff the head as you work. Fasten off and leave a yarn tail for sewing.
